Manufacturing Process

BioDiesel Oils (NZ) Ltd manufactures tallow based biodiesel using good manufacturing practices that ensure the finished biodiesel is fit for it’s intended purpose.

Many country and international specifications now exist for B100, B5 or greater blends with diesel.

Local climatic conditions and feedstock availability will determine many of the biodiesel quality attributes set by specific countries.

Biodiesel Oils (NZ) Ltd MIST technology will produce biodiesel that is compliant to all biodiesel specifications.

Tallow based biodiesel has different functional properties to biodiesel made from vegetable oils.

It is the performance of the blended product (e.g. B5) at point of use that is the key indicator and with tallow based biodiesel blends of BioDiesel Oils (NZ) Ltd B100, compliance to recognized B5 specifications is achieved.

  • Animal fats and plant oils made of triglycerides.
  • Triglycerides are made up of fatty acids and glycerol
  • The transesterifiaction  process splits these fatty acids from glycerol and combines them with an alcohol – normally methanol – to give biodiesel
  • The MIST process ensures
    • High yield (one kilogram of fat in gives 1 litre of biodiesel out)
    • Fast rate of reactions
    • Rapid mixing and efficient washing using our patented technology
    • Extensive recycle loops
    • Easy to control
    • Modular design – increased capacities through add ons
    • Glycerol – the main by product with many applications
